The current Fire Station was built in 1976 and it is not meeting the current needs of our community. With new hazards and technological advancements, our current facility creates challenges with poor ventilation, lack of adequate storage and training space, and risk of injury putting on gear with the tight fit around trucks and equipment.

The City approved maintaining the levy rate and to not raise taxes for the bond issue. The debt service payments will be subsidized through Local Option Sales Tax, which was approved by the voters, for debt relief.

Local option sales tax has been adopted in most cities and unincorporated areas in Iowa. Local option sales tax is imposed on the gross receipts from sales of tangible personal property. Tax applies if "delivery" of the tangible personal property occurs within a local option sales tax jurisdiction.

The project will begin construction Fall 2021. The project duration will be approximately one year for all areas to be completed, with the expansion being completed by Fall 2022.
