The first question on the ballot is asking you to approve a General Obligation (GO) bond for $4,115,000 ($4,000,000 for Construction; $115,000 for bond fees). The GO bond requires 60% approval to pass.
The second question on the ballot is asking you to approve a Public Education and Recreation Levy (PERL) for $0.135. The funding from the PERL can be used for upkeep, maintenance and staffing of community areas including playgrounds and our proposed Activity Learning Center. The PERL requires 50% approval to pass.
The Community will have access to the Activity Learning Center for meetings, family activities, youth activities, community events, etc. Access to the rest of the school and classrooms will be restricted.
For example: The Community will be able to access the building from 4-9 pm Monday-Friday and 8am-2pm on Saturday and Sunday (the official times for community access have yet to be determined).
With a successful PERL vote, staffing will be provided by the School.
Our current school tax rate is $12.50129. With the proposed increase of $0.81, our expected rate would increase to $13.3116 – still below the average rate for comparable schools in the state of Iowa which is $13.60!
With a successful bond election, we plan to begin construction August 2019 and anticipate classes beginning August 2020.
Any registered voter living within the Missouri Valley School District boundaries is eligible to participate in the election. Election day will be April 2, 2019, with the polls open from 7:00 am – 8:00 pm.
